We’ve curated a few questions to guide you in finding the right doctor and building your care team. You
can use this along with the Find a Doctor/Cancer Center Checklist to help you narrow down your
options, as you seek different opinions and select the right partner in managing your care.

  • What is your experience in treating my type of cancer? How long have you been in practice?
  • Are you board certified in oncology? Do you have a specialty?
  • How many patients with this type and stage of cancer do you treat each year?
  • Are you or your practice involved in clinical trials?
  • When do I need to make a decision about my treatment plan?
  • Which cancer center or hospital do you have privileges at? Will I receive treatment in an inpatient or outpatient center?
  • What type of oncologists will be part of my cancer team and who will lead my overall care?
  • Who else will be part of my cancer care team?
  • Are my doctors and other care team members all at the same hospital/cancer center or at different locations?
  • If I experience a new side effect, a change in how I'm feeling or have more questions, who should I contact?
  • If I have an issue in the evening or over the weekend, is there a way to contact you?
  • Will my case be reviewed by a tumor board and if so, when will this happen?
  • Do you offer any special services, such as transportation, reserved patient parking, coordination of financial assistance, emotional support, etc.?
